Political affiliation: I have no political affiliation in this election but would describe myself as centre right. I have no running mates in the election and am hoping enough people like the way I go about things to vote me onto council.
Occupation: Semi-retired. Previously, service station and Top Wash car wash owner, part-time truck driver to help people out.
How long have you lived in Orange: I was born in Orange in 1958 and I have never left.
I was educated at East Orange Public School and Canobolas High School.
What is your family situation: I am a husband, father and grand father to seven grandchildren, six of whom live in Orange. I still have my Mum living and driving around town so I have exposure to the issues that affect many generations of Orange residents.
Most important issues: There are plenty of them but roads are right up there at the minute. One thing I would like to look into is Orange City Council partnering with a business to produce our own hotmix as in the past.
Hotmix production is tricky in that when you need it, you need lots but it has to be kept warm and when you don't need it you have staff standing around doing nothing. I'd like to look into some sort of joint venture with a development company - Orange has a lot of development work going on, it could benefit both parties.
The fix for most issues will be the same - give Council staff the budget and confidence to do things properly.
In the short term it may mean doing less but doing it better for long term results.
This would particularly apply to roads.
With regard to the sports complex at Bloomfield I would be pushing for that to proceed and even speeding up the construction process.
I'm also supporter of mountain bike trails on Mount Canobolas, in Tasmania they have the Dragon Trail in March through the wilderness - if they can have it down there surely we can have it here.
Why you should vote for me: Because what you see is what you get and I like to see things done well. When you're on the outside you think you know what's going on on the side, I'd like to be on the inside to make sure.
