Orange's colts team was announced earlier this week, with the side set to travel to Dubbo for a two-day showcase during the annual Western zone carnival.
The squad will be coached by Dave Hunter, who noted they were on the younger side of things.
"We've only got a handful of players who are right up against that 18 age range. We've got a young side here, but it puts us in good position for the next one or two seasons," he said.
"It's great for their cricket that they get to mix it with really good cricketers in the area that are that little bit older, bigger, stronger. It will be a good test for them."
Wykes and Rodwell will both be eligible for the under 18s team next time, but they aren't focused on that just yet.
"It's a great opportunity for us and we'll look to take advantage of it," Rodwell said.
"It's going to be a good challenge and it will definitely improve our skills, being able to play against those types of guys. Wherever I bat I'll do the best I can and try to score as many runs as I can."
Wykes will be keeping wicket for the Blue Baggers and said having players like Rodwell and Rayne Canham - all three CYMS players - alongside him will be helpful.
"It's pretty good because you'll have someone you actually know in a different environment," he said.
"I'm just hoping to learn a few new skills, meet some people and do my best for the team I suppose."
The carnival will consist of teams taking part in two 50 over matches each.
Orange's day one matchup will be against Dubbo, while Bathurst will take on a Chairman's XI from around the Central West which includes CYMS first-grader Mac Webster.
The winners of each game will then face off in the final on Sunday, while the other two will play off for third place that same day.
Coach Hunter highlighted a few players who could be key for the young Orange side.
"George Cumming as our captain comes in with a lot of experience and has had good success already with Cavs in first grade this season," he said.
"The other would be Jarryd Seib who was part of the Orange City first grade premiership team, so he has big game experience.
"It's a really good opportunity for the boys this weekend. It's a good chance to build long innings and bowl in spells to put your stamp on the game."
Eight of the players selected in this year's side are eligible for next year, with Cumming, Seib and Lawson Hamling the only ones not.
Following the conclusion of the carnival, a team will be picked who will then compete in the country carnival in January in Bathurst.
Orange's full side for the carnival is: George Cumming (c), Rayne Canham, Lawson Hamling, Luke Hunter, Harry Priest, Will Rodwell, Jarryd Seib, Dudley Shepherd, Tynan Southcombe, Campbell Warburton and Lachlan Wykes.
