Police are investigating following a fire at a unit in Orange on Friday morning.

Fire and Rescue NSW Orange station officer Brad Monico said the fire brigade was called to the Garema Road unit at 10.15am.
"When we arrived there was smoke and flames coming out of the bedroom window, the unit was well alight," Mr Monico said.
"It took two crews about an hour to extinguish the fire."

"We prevented the fire from spreading to the neighbouring adjoining unit," he said.
"It's now a police matter.
Mr Monico said NSW Fire and Rescue was also responded to a hazardous materials call at the Newcrest laboratories on Friday morning.
He said one of the detectors gave a false reading of a chemical and it was found to be a faulty detector.
"It was a big call and lots of appliances [from] here went," Mr Monico said.
In another matter, Central West Police District chief Inspector David Maher said officers arrested and charged a teenager in relation to riding a stolen motorbike on Thursday.

"They did catch a couple of kids on motorbikes that have been causing a bit of grief," he said.
"One person has been arrested with numerous offences in relation to riding a stolen motorbike."
The 16-year-old was arrest in Currong Crescent at 6.30pm and was to face Orange Children's Court on Friday.
