While nothing is set in stone, NSWRL floated the idea at the Mid West annual general meeting last Wednesday.

Returning Mid West president Dallas Booth said he's a fan of the concept, but said it still requires support from Woodbridge Cup officials.

"There's nothing set in stone yet but the idea is to try and create two even comps across both Mid West Cup and Woodbridge, with the top sides playing a finals series at the end," he said.

"You'd have both the Mid West and Woodbridge Cup competitions but it wouldn't involve cross-over games but it would involve a rep game.

"At the end of those competitions, there'll obviously be a winner of both and, at this stage, they were suggesting a first past the post system. But the top three from Mid West and Woodbridge would go into a six-team finals series.

"That's the idea NSWRL have and nothing is set in stone. There's a fair few hoops we'd have to jump through and while that's what NSWRL has come up with and spoken to us about, they haven't spoken to Woodbridge yet."

The Woodbridge Cup featured nine teams in 2021, while the Mid West Cup only has five senior men teams.

Booth said NSWRL has floated the idea of moving the Canowindra Tigers and Molong Bulls from Woodbridge to join CSU Mungoes, Orange Warriors, Oberon Tigers, Portland Colts and Lithgow Bears in Mid West.

There is the possibility of Blayney Bears joining the Mid West Cup, if they opt to not play reserve grade in Group 10.

The remaining Woodbridge clubs are Cargo Blue Heelers, Condobolin Rams, Eugowra Golden Eagles, Grenfell Goannas, Manildra Rhinos, Peak Hill Roosters and Trundle Boomers.

The concept is dependent on the Woodbridge Cup representatives giving their approval.

The former Oberon Tigers coach believes both competitions will come together in the future, in one way or another.

"I really like what Evan Jones and the NSWRL have come up with, to make the sport sustainable and not have massive travel for a second division comp," he said.

"I do like the idea of coming together and one way or another, I think we'll come up with something really good."

Booth has been confirmed as president once again.

Katrina Hausia from Orange Warriors will take on the secretary role, Craig Parsons from Kandos the treasurer and Bek Griffin from CSU will act as the vice president for the season.
