The east Orange school was closed on Thursday and Friday for cleaning and contact tracing following a positive case within the school community.

Seymour Street Early Learning centre was also closed on Thursday and Friday after a child in its toddler room on Monday tested positive.

The closures come after Orange recorded 10 COVID-19 cases since Tuesday and the local government area has now be identified as an area of concern by the Western NSW Local Health District.

Under the NSW Government initiative which was announced on Thursday, primary schools have been approved to use rapid antigen home tests meaning students can be back in classrooms in seven days instead of the normal 14-day isolation period.

Parents have been told the use of daily RAHT is optional and will need to be conducted at home under adult supervision.

Should they choose not to use it, the student will be required isolate for 14 days.

Students will still need to follow NSW Health advice on isolation requirements outside the school, including not attending out-of-school-hours activities.

Students will also still need to have a standard nose and throat swab test from a testing clinic as soon as they are identified as a close contact, and a second test on day six.

If the daily RAHT is negative, students can go to school and continue to use the RAHT test each morning before school. From Day 15 testing is not required.
