Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District were notified following concerns for an 89-year-old man after he left a property on Mountain Valley Road at Neurea, about 1.45pm on Tuesday.
Police commenced inquiries to locate the man as he had not been seen or heard from since.
About 1pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to the Bell River at Nuerea after reports the body of a man had been located.
Local police, together with NSW Ambulance paramedics, attended the location and retrieved the body from the water.
The body is believed to be a Nuerea local.
Police are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident, however it is not believed the death is suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
