The Orange racer qualified second at the Sydney Motorsport Park over the weekend.

"We had to dust a lot of cobwebs off as it's been about five or six months since I've actually raced. Getting back into the groove was definitely a shock to the system," he said.

"I think we could've got a bit closer to pole, if not poll, I made a couple of mistakes on my lap but overall was quite happy with it."

Come the first race on Sunday, Burcher got off to a good start and was battling for a top three spot.

But that was when he got into a bit of trouble.

"Because it's a NSW state round, you're allowed to block and cover your line, effectively making harder for someone to pass you," he said.

"While I was making the move to pass someone and entered the corner at about 220km/h, he didn't really give me any room and when you're on the inside on that corner, anything that happens there is just a knock-on effect.

"I made contact with the car I was trying to pass. I was the unfortunate one and it ripped the steering wheel out of my hands and sent me off into the gravel and the wall.

"It was disappointing because we had the pace to finish if not second, definitely be able to challenge for the win. I just couldn't find a way passed the other car."

With just two hours between the start of race one and two, Burcher and his team were unable to get him back on the track in time for the next go-round. Thankfully for the Orange driver, he was able to get going in the final race of the day.

He started in 13^th place and once again got off to a good start and would eventually run third.

"I think in all, it's definitely a positive. It's nice to see after what happened in the first, we still went out guns blazing in the final race," he added.

"We showed our pace and that we had the pace to win it, just that the cookie didn't crumble the way we would've liked to this weekend.

"Any time you drive a race car it's honestly amazing. I'm very fortunate to do what I do and am very appreciative of everyone who supports me. A lot of the time I don't know how I can thank them enough, but just being back in the race car was insane, it was probably the most fun I've had in a long time.

"It's something that I've missed, and don't even really know how to describe how much."

His next and final chance to race will be on the weekend of December 11 and 12 at Wakefield Park which will be an event worth double points.
