Both have adopted a get-things-done stance but take different backgrounds into their campaign, with Mr Naughton, 63, having lived in Orange all his life while Mr Girle-Bennett, 32, is a tree-changer, moving to Orange about two and half years ago.
Mr Naughton is a supporter of the mountain bike trails plan for Mount Canobolas which he believes most Orange residents are also backing, along with the sports precinct at Jack Brabham Park.
"At the end of the day there's a silent majority and I want to give them a voice," Mr Naughton said.
"I use the roads, I'd like to have some input on them, I've been a cyclist...
"There's grandkids, I know what they need."
Mr Naughton, now semi-retired, is probably best known as the former owner of the Top Wash carwash after having a service station on Bathurst Road.
"Back when service stations provided service," he quipped.
"Having been in business since the day I left school to about five years ago, I think I have a lot of insight on running a business and council is a business," he said.
"I'm still pretty well known, some people will vote for me because they know me, some people won't vote for me because they know me.
"I'm not aligning myself with anyone ... let's just get things done."
Mr Girle-Bennett moved to Orange from Sydney and works at Nestle-Purina and has a second job at Woolworths. He said he was getting sense that people in a similar position, that is new residents, were frustrated with how Orange City Council is run.
"Council is not fully productive and that's starting to affect people coming to Orange," he said.
Mr Girle-Bennett recounted his own experience in building a house, with a second DA taking 78 days to clear which he said was way too long.
He said rates were increasing but services seemed to be decreasing.
"I'm frustrated with the condition of the roads, Clergate Road and the Northern Distributor and other roads - I'm not the only candidate to run on roads but we need to get more funds for roads.
"To be brutally honest, [running] in a group is probably better but I'm giving this a red-hot go."
