The Molong mum-of-five had gone to extreme lengths to make Halloween special at her place in Gidley Street, which joins Molong's Bank Street, by building a hair-raising maze in her front yard.

All trick-or-treaters visiting her home on Sunday will have to make their way through the spooky maze before they can pick up their lollies at the front door.

The project, which she made using pallets, took three weeks to put together and is "full of things that move and scream," she says.

Ms Smith created the maze in response to COVID-19 restrictions, which limit the amount of people you can have at home at the one time.

"Because of COVID you can't let too many people through the gate so we created the maze to stop that."

An adult will be at the gate to let trick-or-treaters through one-by-one.

Inside she has created a thrilling Halloween experience.

"There's things in there that touch you - like fake hands and feet," Ms Smith said.

"There's mummies hanging up that scream. There's an invisible door mat that you walk over that screams and says 'welcome to the haunted house."

There are soundbars installed so there can be scary Halloween noises and even a fog machine to create an extra eerie atmosphere.

"It's like a cemetery in there," she said.

There'll also be some live 'ghouls' (played by Trista's friends and family) positioned along the way to help up the fright factor.

Ms Smith says the maze didn't cost much to build as she sourced the pallets for free and had a good amount of decorations already from previous Halloweens.

The creation has been the talk of the town in Molong - the normally sleepy Cabonne town preparing to come to life over the weekend with passers by all curious to find out what Ms Smith has been up to over the last few weeks.

"Because I live near the main street everyone has been watching it being built and people pull up and talk all the time," she added.
