It's been a challenging time for RSPCA Orange shelter manager T'Mielle White and her staff and volunteers, not to mention the many animals needing homes.
"And we've missed having people come through as well, talking to them [and answering] certain questions, helping them do proper adoptions, getting to meet the animals. So that's definitely... been one of the bigger challenges."
For the past eleven weeks, people have still been able to adopt cats, dogs and other animals, but it's been via a "click and collect" type arrangement.
"People would apply online for a particular animal, and then if they were successful, we would email them back to schedule a time where they could come in to do either an adoption or a meet," Ms White said.
However, with so many people from outside the Orange LGA unable to travel in to meet or collect animals, it meant that adoption numbers were significantly decreased compared to normal.
On Wednesday, that all changed though, and the shelter was once again allowing people to come through and meet its dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits and guinea pigs needing homes.
The shelter is open from Wednesday to Sunday between 10am and 3.30pm. It is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays.
All of the animals currently up for adoption are listed on the RSPCA Central West website.
