Daily flights between Orange and Sydney will return in time for Christmas holidays, Rex unveiling plans to reintroduce suspended services and reinforce a strong "commitment to remote and regional NSW communities" ahead of the festive season.
Domestic and Regional routes on Rex's network in NSW were either temporarily suspended or greatly reduced in July, and have remained that way throughout the state government's lockdown.
But with restrictions now easing Rex plans to increase capacity and reinstate suspended services on key NSW regional routes from November 15.
The Orange to Sydney route will go from two to three times a week to daily. The regional airline will also introduce significantly reduced fares and no Christmas holiday blackout dates to celebrate the re-opening.
Similar services will also return to Albury, Armidale, Dubbo, Griffith, Merimbula, Moruya and Wagga Wagga.
Additional services will be progressively added as demand for travel returns at the back end of 2021 and into the new year.
I have no doubt our competitors will rush to copy our ground-breaking initiative.Rex deputy chairman John Sharp AM
Rex deputy chairman John Sharp AM said the airline was delighted to be able to help family and friends reconnect and allow Christmas holidays to be booked with confidence.
"Our commitment to remote and regional NSW communities has never been stronger," he said.
"The resumption of flights will also provide a much-needed boost to local economies, stimulate regional tourism and help businesses ravaged by the pandemic to recover more quickly."
He said the decision not to blackout school holidays is "unprecedented" and could trigger a pricing shift in the industry, benefiting regional NSW.
"I have no doubt our competitors will rush to copy our ground-breaking initiative," he added.
Mr Sharp said regional NSW passengers can book with confidence knowing Rex front-line staff, including pilots and flights attendants, will be fully vaccinated from November 1.
