The funds, raised by Daybreak Rotary on their annual Cruisin' Along Trek held in May this year, were presented to WNSWLHD Director of Clinical Trials Unit Dr Rob Zielinski at Daybreak's breakfast meeting at Waratah Sports Club on Wednesday.
"The donation from Rotary gives us a critical boost to the vital opportunity cancer clinical trials offer our patients," Dr Zielinski said.
"Our motto is - cancer clinical trials give people access to tomorrow's drugs today."
"The currency of clinical trials is essential staff, and the more money we have to fund additional staff the more trials we can open and the more patients we can start on potentially life-prolonging therapies".
Dr Zielinski thanked all involved in the Cruisin' Along Trek, with special mention of John and Terry Davis who have organised the past twelve events as well as Paul Rowse, who with his PYBAR sponsorship was responsible for a sizeable portion of the funds.
"This funding from Rotary will further boost our capabilities" Dr Zielinski said, "It is truly humbling to me and my staff to be living and working in a community that remains so generous."
As well as supporting the Clinical Trials Unit, this year's Trek had the express purpose of putting monies back into drought affected communities. Hill End, Molong, Wellington, Gilgandra, Condoblin, Grenfell, Temora and Molong all benefited though sales, accommodation, meals and fuel when the Trek stopped in.
