Case numbers have declined across whole of the region this week, and in the 24 hour period to 8pm on Monday just one new case of COVID-19 was detected, and that was in Bourke.
That figure will rise on Wednesday, though, with Mr McLachlan confirming at least six new cases - spread between Wellington and Walgett - have been identified. They're still under investigation.
Still, case numbers haven't been this low since the start of this outbreak on August 11, when two new cases were initially picked up in Dubbo.
The health chief was buoyed by news hospitals across the district, including Orange, are now COVID-19 free.
He said the region's strong vaccination rate was one of the major factors in that decline in hospitalisation.
Broken down in Local Government Areas, the Federal Government's latest vaccination figures show that the double-dose rates across the Orange region are above 80 per cent.
In Cabonne 82.5 per cent of the population 16 and over is fully vaccinated and 93.3 per cent have had one dose.
In Blayney, 85.7 per cent are double dose vaccinated and over 95 per cent have rolled up their sleeve once.
The vast majority catching, spreading and getting crook from COVID aren't vaccinated.

While the rate steps up again in the Orange LGA, with 87.3 per cent of the population double dose vaccinated.
"It's a huge milestone for us today," Mr McLachlan said. "We've had 12 patients recover in the last 24 hours.
"And we know vaccination stops people being hospitilised with COVID."
He said testing numbers across the district were still relatively strong, too, with around 2300 conducted across the region to 8pm on Monday.
The district's COVID community care program is helping around 140 people recover from the virus at home and Mr McLachlan said of those 75 per cent hadn't been vaccinated at all.
He said that number should serve as a timely reminder to those who haven't yet had a vaccination.
"The vast majority catching, spreading and getting crook from COVID aren't vaccinated," he said.
"Case numbers are the lowest they've been in eight or nine weeks, but we can't afford to think we're totally out of the woods.
"COVID is still creeping around region. For us, it's a matter of finding it and helping people with the illness."
Mr McLachlan said vaccination rates had surged well past 90 per cent first dose in many parts of the region, with Orange and Dubbo both now "well up over" 80 per cent double dose.
He said across the region there were no new venues of concern, since Sunday, and no new detections of the virus in sewage systems across the Western LHD.
