Saddened by the anxiety her customers felt when trying to prove they were eligible to enter her store and upset by being put in the position of having to refuse entry to others, Sarah Stephens of Earth Spirit has closed her doors until everyone can walk through them.
"We all should be allowed in here," Mrs Stephens said. "Everyone's allowed in the supermarkets but they're not allowed in my shop. It doesn't make sense."
Mrs Stephens made the decision to close her doors until December 1, the date the unvaccinated will be afford the same freedoms and as the fully vaccinated according to the NSW Government's roadmap out of COVID-19 lockdown, after initially opening up on Monday last week.
By Wednesday, she'd had enough. As the only person manning her shop, she found it difficult to police government regulations.
"I just can't do it - I mean I can get fined $5000 just because I can't police it properly.
"I didn't feel right about asking people if they were double-vaccinated, but [customers] were afraid, they were trying to find the papers to show me because they didn't want to get fined or get in trouble," she said.
"It just makes me sad that it's come to this."
Mrs Stephens said she has an online presence and is working on setting up a You-Tube channel but said her decision would hurt her financially.
"Of course it's going to affect me but I can't do it, I can't discriminate.
"I've been writing letters to the the politicians, I'm just about to do one to [Member for Orange] Phil Donato to say please make sure that we open up to everyone on the first December 1."
