On Tuesday, a further four cases were officially added to Orange's tally, on top of the three reported by NSW Health the day prior.

Scott McLachlan, chief executive of Western NSW Local Health District, confirmed that at least two of those seven cases were young children.

"We are seeing the vast majority of cases across the whole of the region in the last week to ten days have been in children," he said.

"Moreover people under 12 that haven't been vaccinated. There's obviously a lot of mingling and connection between kids. A couple of the cases in Orange as well."

He did not have the exact numbers on hand however.

He added that parents should be thinking about how to best protect their children in the coming weeks and months.

"Suffice to say there's a real opportunity for the parents to think about where and how your kids are circulating with other kids and please think about a regular testing opportunity," he said.

"The surveillance testing is still in place which means you don't have to isolate if you don't have any symptoms. It's a great opportunity, particularly with kids going back to school, to get them tested on a regular basis.

"In coming weeks and months, I know kids are going to see a lot of spread in COVID among some of the younger age groups."

It had previously been reported that an Orange City Council staff member who later tested positive to COVID, visited Courallie Park (Thursday, October 7 between 11.16am and 12.28pm) and Yarrawong (Wednesday, October 6 between 10.42am and 12.53pm) childcare centres last week.

The staff member was also in the office at Giyalang Ganya Community Services Centre in Lords Place.

The childcare centres and Giyalang Ganya were closed on Monday.
