Michael Leslie Rylands, 56, of Cox Avenue, was caught on May 26, when officers attached to the Central West Police District's proactive crime team stopped his car in McLachlan Street.
According to police, Rylands tested positive to driving with cannabis and methylamphetamine in his system and said he smoked cannabis the previous night.
He handed a shopping bag to police that contained four bags of cannabis, which weighed 122.6 grams.
Rylands and two passengers were then searched but nothing more was found although a evidence of further offences was found on his phone so his house was searched and police found 0.4 grams of methylamphetamine, another 0.2 grams of cannabis and the knuckle dusters.
Solicitor Peter Ringbauer said Rylands made the knuckledusters out of a plastic cutting board, which he had previously used to make door stops. He said Rylands' drug of choice was cannabis and he had tried meth but didn't like it and did not plan to use it again.
Magistrate David Day convicted Rylands and gave him three concurrent 12-month community Correction Orders for the drug possession.
He also gave him a concurrent nine-month Community Correction Order for possession of the knuckle dusters.
Rylands was given a Community Release Order for driving with methylamphetamine and cannabis in his system.
The order requires him to be of good behaviour for two years but did not include a conviction or driving disqualification so he can continue driving an unwell family member to their appointments.
