This project, jointly funded through the Australian Government's Building Better Regions Fund and NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities fund, will see the installation of four new lighting towers at The Rec.
Replacing the current 25-metre-high lighting structures, the new lights will stand 30.5 metres high. The 1200-watt light fixtures on each pole will allow for 300 lumens on the playing surface, which meets the cricket and rugby standards for game lighting.
Cabonne councillor and member of the Molong Advancement Group, Mr Batten was delighted that the work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
"It started as a conversation between myself and Graham Hobbs who was the coach of the Molong Magpies. We had a chat one day and said the lights were pretty ordinary," he said.
"We approached all the clubs and what we found was a heck of a lot of support to get something to happen."
Mr Batten added that he was overjoyed when he found out the funding had been approved.
"It means that it will allow us to have semi-professional rugby games here and also 20/20 cricket games under lights," he added.
"We were really pleased to see it because it will mean a lot for Molong. Even down the track it might mean we can have night markets."
He likened the new lights to those at Wade Park.
