Instead, the NSW Open which was due to be held at the Molong Golf Club, had to be cancelled due to the ongoing COVID lockdown.
President of Central West Disc Golf, Kevin Costa, said it was a "reality of the times we live in."
"We've got events being postponed all around the place," he said.
"We've got an assurance that we've got the event next, year. So should it all run, we'll have the NSW Open in 2022. It essentially means we put the plans on hold for a little while."
Members from the club were also due to travel down to Victoria in November for the national tournament. But that as well has been postponed until next year.
"As a club it's disappointing because we put a lot into a big event like this, but we know that we're going to get a follow-up event next year," Costa added.
"I think everyone could see the writing on the wall for quite a while and this was just formalising the decision.
"The course is looking spectacular at the moment due to the hard work of our team of locals, who work tirelessly to keep the course in such great condition and so it is doubly disappointing that we cannot show off their incredible work to all of you."
But while that event may not be going ahead, Molong residents are still taking to the course.
The club is running virtual events, where people will play either by themselves, or in COVID-safe groups and then send their results in.
"As it is, we've got people still out as individuals and couples and families still playing disc golf because it lends itself to the social distancing with COVID restrictions," Costa said.
"So with daily exercise, we've still got quite a few locals getting out and having a throw.
"They'll send us their scores and we'll post a leaderboard. We can still do those virtual local things."
But even though the sport remains open, Costa can't wait until it is back in full force.
"As soon as things get back to something resembling normal we look forward to having you all out here, enjoying all that our great little town and the NSW Central Western Region have to offer, including some outstanding disc golf."
