The NSW Government program is to try and increase staff to support the needs of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants.
Apprenticeship Careers Australia (ACA) - a specialist training division of Business NSW - is encouraging people of all backgrounds to apply, but particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
According to Business NSW's Regional Manager of Western NSW Vicki Seccombe, approximately 30 to 45 people will be trained and placed in employment in the Orange region.
"By providing a program that attracts new workers into the industry and guides them through their accreditation and training we are creating a ready-made workforce for local employers and supporting a more stable disability sector workforce," Ms Seccombe added.
The new training program will be delivered by ACA over four weeks prior to permanent placement.
According to the Australian Government Department of Social Services up to 30,000 additional NDIS workers will be needed in NSW by 2024. Australia-wide, 83,000 NDIS workers are expected to be required by then.
There are currently around 3,750 unfilled vacancies across the country.
The NSW Government will cover all training costs for those wanting to get involved, as well as mandatory NDIS worker screening checks. The program will also provide mentoring and buddy shifts for participants in the program.
ACA is also partnering with Yilabara Solutions to focus on attracting and supporting more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to sign up for the program, as it strives to grow the Indigenous disability workforce in the NDIS.
