After sustained and very welcome spring conditions across Orange for the better part of the last week, Orange will begrudgingly battle through a September snow day early next week.

With the city's best snowfall over 40 years recorded in June, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a top of just 7 degrees Celsius across Orange on Tuesday, with the BoM's meteye technology indicating that cold front will bring snow to the region's high parts in the morning.

The Meteye's graphic says parts of Mount Canobolas will receive a decent covering, while Orange - sitting at around 900 metres - should see snow flurries.

The most notable of those falls should eventuate around 7am on Tuesday, according to the Meteye.

The BoM is saying it'll be a partly cloudy day with a medium (50 per cent) chance of showers or snow and winds south-westerly reaching 25km/h to 35 km/h.

The 24-hour cold snap will be a shock for residents with Monday's top temperature to be around 16 degrees.

The long-term average top temperature throughout September in Orange is a tick over 14 degrees Celsius. We've had a top temperature of 20.1 degrees this month.
