Western Region Assistant Commissioner Brett Greentree said fines relating to health order breaches were down in the past 24 hours, with only 60 handed out across the region. This is a number that he said has progressively decreased in the past few days.
"We are still concerned about the movement of people around the place," he said.
"The majority of those, 29 of those in Orana and predominantly of those in Dubbo so that's a real concern and that tells me people are still moving around when they shouldn't be and therefore potentially moving the virus around our community."
He added that four fines were issued in Barrier police district, four within the Bourke and Walgett areas and a further eight in the Central West of which the majority were in Orange.
He spoke in detail of one fine in particular out in Mudgee.
"We had at 2.30am in the morning a 25-year-old female who had been out visiting friends, drinking," Mr Greentree added.
"She got pulled over for breath testing. Not only did she get charged with an allegation of driving with alcohol within her system, but also a breach of the public health orders.
"Again, we need to say people need to stay home. We are far from through this at the moment. The policing operation will ramp up somewhat, focusing on those hotspot locations."
He urged people to remain vigilant over the coming weeks.
"We are close to the vaccination status of what we are all hoping for and will allow us more freedoms," he said.
"From a policing perspective, if you are out and about breaching public health orders, you will receive an infringement or possibly be charged with the breach of the health orders."
