For Pina Bayliss, that small something came in the form of a letter dropped off on her doorstep.
It was Wednesday when she decided to take her kids for a bit of fresh air when something caught their attention.
"We went out to check the mail and there was this cute little note and flower with a ribbon on it on our front doormat," Mrs Bayliss said.
"The kids were coming out and were like 'mum what's this?'
"It's just nice to see that someone took time out of their day to make someone else's day better. It was sweet."
That letter was addressed to "whoever is getting this" from someone only named as Madi.
It read: "I understand lockdown has been hard but you are doing amazing! I promise it will end soon. I hope you and your family have a great day. Don't lose hope."
Neither Mrs Bayliss or her kids know a Madi near where they live in North Orange and were overwhelmed by the random act of kindness.
"It made us all smile. It made us feel like there is hope and there are people out there who are trying to stick together as a community and be there for each other and that we're not alone in this crazy lockdown situation," she said.
"Lockdown has been difficult. We are very close with our family and to not be able to go visit your family and friends has probably been the hardest thing."
They weren't the only ones who received a letter either, with the mysterious Madi doing her best to bring a bit of sunshine to everyone's lives.
