An Orange woman said she was walking her dogs with a friend in the Ploughmans Wetlands this week when she saw a black snake sunning itself next to a path.
Cathy Mileto said she managed to stop and get around the area before the snake made any attempt to rear up.
He was just there, I looked up, I pulled the dogs back and we walked around him.

"I was walking the dogs about 4.30 in the afternoon," she said.
"It was maybe three-quarters of a metre. He was only a baby. He was just in the grass on the edge [of the path]."
She said she did not know a lot about snakes but it was predominantly black with possibly some blue or green colouring.
"He was just there, I looked up, I pulled the dogs back and we walked around him."
She said she called out to some children who were playing in grasses warning them.
"They soon got out," she said.
"If someone had trod on him he would have reared up."
Mrs Mileto said she was walking near the Cargo Road side of the Ploughmans Wetlands when she spotted the snake.
She said it was a reminder to people, particularly those near wetlands and waterways, that it was snake season and people needed to watch out while exercising.
Mrs Mileto said she regularly walked her dogs in the area but hadn't seen a snake in the wetlands before.
However, she said she had seen them on Mount Canobolas and at Wentworth golf course.
"I've seen them on the golf course over the years," she said.
It follows another woman spotting a brown or copperhead snake while walking at Gosling Creek Reserve last week.
Carine Miller was at Gosling Creek on Thursday with daughters Sylvie and Lenya.
"It's not the area where the playground is, it's the area where the dogs can go off the leash and there's a path that runs around all the way to the other road," she said.
"I heard the noise and I could see the snake was about to come out onto the path which is right near where I was," she said.
"I stopped and froze a bit out of fear but it's also what you're meant to do. It realised I was there and it double-backed, landed and froze itself in the bush area."
