Some, like the Blowes Clothing Cup were cancelled nearly two weeks ago when Central West Rugby Union decided to abandon the season. Others, like the Western Premier League (soccer) and Central West AFL waited slightly longer before shutting things down.

But not everyone has thrown in the towel just yet. Group 10 rugby league is still yet to do away with the season and there might be hope yet.

Chief executive of Western NSW Local Health District Scott McLachlan said people should "hold out hope" that sporting codes can finish off the year.

"We know that we can get on top of this, we know that the things that are difficult at the moment in staying at home and staying away from other people are the things that are going to keep us safe and it will work," he said.

"We'll stop the spread in Western NSW. The three crucial things for us, there's testing, vaccination and staying at home. They are the things that will help us get in front of the spread, help to slow the spread and protect people from getting seriously crook.

"I know it's been tough and not everyone has been able to go to work, not everyone has been able to see their family and friends."

It's also the more localised competitions that are yet to make a call on the remaining seasons.

The Orange and District Football Association finals series was meant to begin this weekend, but with lockdown still in place, that won't happen.

Assuming the lockdown is lifted on September 10, which seems nearly certain that it won't, then the competition would resume on September 11.

What happens if lockdown remains after that is uncertain.

"It'll be tough for a little while longer," Mr McLachlan added.

"For the sporting codes and for everyone else I think it may be a little while before we get back on the fields and playing grounds but they're the things we need to do to keep everyone safe."

The Orange Netball Association is another one which has yet to cancel its senior season.

ONA have said that if it is unable to host a grand final day before September 27 then it will announce winners and runners up based on the competition ladder at that time.
