Mrs Johnson had been nominated by a friend for doing what she considered to be just the normal care-giving duties of any mother to her four children and four-year-old daughter Mabel who was born with the rare genetic condition Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).
The hallmark feature of PWS involves an insatiable appetite, in addition to low metabolism.
For Mabel and her family, it has meant constant trips to Sydney for treatment.
"That sort of stuff is really challenging," Mrs Johnson said.
"So it's nice that people notice that ... [and] can see that it's hard. But also, most of the time, you just do it without thinking about it.
"There's a lot of mums out there doing [this] day to day as well," she added.
Since COVID, the constant trips had become more challenging too as the mum had to do them alone with Mabel, while the rest of the family stayed in Orange.
In addition to Mrs Johnson, also finalists in the 'Angel of the Year' Awards are Shaye Morris and Ruth Harrison.
The award is one of six 'Mummy Awards' being held for the first time in conjunction with Mumfest.
The online voting for all awards opened September 1 and will close midnight October 15.
To vote head to the Central West Mum's website.
The other award finalists are as follows:
- Mum Of The Year: (finalists) Erica Eccleston, Shona Millar, Pamela Johnson
