As retired businessmen, professionals and primary producers from Orange and district, we are very concerned about our Federal Government's attitude to climate action.

The recently released IPCC report is a massive wake-up call to the world, but the Prime Minister won't commit to a plan to meet the international target of net zero emissions by 2050. He says that we're doing our bit but, clearly, it's not enough.
Mr Joyce blusters the tired tune that the Nationals won't support more aggressive and targeted climate action without a plan and seeing the costs, but ignores the cost of inaction. Isn't he the Deputy Prime Minister? Hasn't he got a firm hold on the levers of government to do just that?
Big businesses and organisations like the National Farmers Federation have committed to targeted action, as have Labor and Coalition State Governments. So why is the Federal National Party, in particular, continuing to stonewall?
Could it be that they really care less about Australia's future and more about retaining donors, votes and seats in fossil-fuel producing regions and industries, particularly in Queensland?
Our local MHR, Mr Gee, recently helped Mr Joyce retake the Party leadership.
Now he has a seat at the Cabinet table and so has more influence on the Government's response; and significantly more responsibility for it.
We call on Mr Gee and his National colleagues to be true to their Party's name and demonstrate national leadership.
We call on him to commit his Party to a scientifically targeted, properly-funded strategy that justly and equitably transitions all Australians from our reliance on fossil fuels to a sustainable economy, environment and life in this country.
