But for the Orange man, the attention is now squarely on him after being named the Western Region Academy for Sport's Volunteer of the Year for his work with the cycling community.
"I was very surprised, I wasn't even aware I'd been nominated," he laughed.
"You get into it because your kids are into a sport. My son's into cycling so you get into it that way.
"One of the big things about volunteers, everyone who does a lot of volunteering talks about what they get out of it, not what they're putting in."
For three years now his son Xavier has been with WRAS and for three years Mitch has been somewhat of a jack of all trades.
"I play a support role to the coaches for the kids in Orange," the Volunteer of the Year said.
"I'm given the programs and I effectively implement them and we take the athletes down to Bathurst once a week or whenever we can get there."
When asked about how the award makes him feel, unsurprisingly he wanted to highlight the work of others.
"It's always the case of when you're involved in an organisation like WRAS or the Orange Cycle Club or whoever it happens to be, you end up working with an amazing bunch of people and supporting an amazing bunch of athletes," he said.
"It's a really great environment to work in. If you don't have people who are doing that, those activities, events and organisations just cease to function. It's really important to keep that going.
"It's awesome and it's really nice to have the recognition.
"I think that there are a lot of people who do a lot of activities. When you're part of a team, the success is the team success and not an individual's.
"Without the other people who are doing everything else, there wouldn't be the success that it is."
