About 8.50am on Friday, June 11, officers attended a house in Hartley after reports of unregistered firearms on the premises.
Police seized a number of items, including unsecured ammunition, handcuffs, body armour and firearm parts.
Following inquiries, a 44-year-old man - who is a serving special constable attached to a command in the Western Region - was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice.
The charges included three counts of failing to ensure the safe keeping of a prohibited weapon, possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit, and the holder of a Category A or B licence not having approved storage.
The man is due to appear before Lithgow Local Court on Thursday, September 16, 2021.
His employment status is under review.
