On a few occasions in the last month, Molong has had fragments of the virus detected in sewage and the only active case in our region is tied to the Cabonne Local Government Area.
There's also been positive detections in sewage systems in Mudgee and Dubbo, while northern parts of the state, like Tamworth and Armidale, are in lockdown.
The Molong Show Society announced the news on Tuesday morning, and Ms Garlick said with its championship dog sections, and horse and cattle parades a big draw card for people right across NSW, there was no way the society wanted to be responsible for bringing any potential cases to the region.
The show was scheduled to run on Sunday, September 19.
"The (COVID) scares in Molong didn't help," Ms Garlick said.
"We didn't want to encourage other competitors from hot spots or, not even that, we just didn't want to encourage competitors from far and wide to come to Molong at the moment."
The annual show brings attracts a crowd of around "a few thousand" each year, Ms Garlick said.
The 2020 show was also cancelled, as per Agricultural Societies Council (ASC) advice, but some activities were still able to be run.
Ms Garlick said the "pavilion" sections of the show would run in the "no show window show" format it used in 2020, while the popular scarecrow competition would return too.
Ms Garlick said planning for those two elements of the abbreviated show was underway, and an eye had already turned to 2022.
"We were hoping for a normal show for this year, but fingers crossed we get that in 2022 now," she added.
