A report to Orange City Council this week said NBN Co representatives had briefed a council committee on the service.
"Fibre to the Premises is likely to become available to Orange residents in September on a user pays basis," it said.
"This will deliver speeds of up to 100 Mbps (megabits per second). There will be a community information campaign on this issue.
"The Enterprise Ethernet Connect will allow commercial entities to [have] speeds approaching 1Gbps (gigabits per second)."
An NBN Co spokesman said it was upgrading the current Fibre to the Node service, where the broadband connection is provided to streets and existing copper wire connects to individual properties, in Orange.
"Orange is being switched from to Fibre to the Node to Fibre to the Premises, which provides access to the fastest speed tiers that NBN offers wholesale through retail service providers," he said.
"Orange is also an NBN Business Fibre Zone, which is an NBN initiative that gives businesses within the zone access to premium business-grade services."
He said the rollout would involve the physical connection of fibre lines into houses and businesses across Orange.
It would also include the provision of connection boxes at each property.
He said people wishing to use the faster internet would need to contact telecommunications retail providers such as Telstra, Optus and other companies.
NBN began upgrading locations across Australia to Fibre to the Premises in October 2020.
Consumer comparison company Canstar Blue said the cost of Fibre to the Premises internet depended on the speeds being sought by the consumer.
"Unlimited data [plans] are available for as little as around $44.90 per month," its website states.
"Data-capped plans may be a little cheaper, but you'll blow through the data in no time if you're a heavy user or do lots of streaming. For this price, you'll be getting basic NBN speeds.
"Most providers offer plans at no additional charge on Fibre to the Node connections. Many providers' plans are also available across Fibre to the Premises and Fibre to the Node connection types at no price discrepancy."
