The award is one of six 'Mummy Awards' being held for the first time in conjunction with Central West Mums' (CWM) Mumfest and is open to everyone - not just mothers.

CWM founder Amorette Zielinski said 'Angel of the Year' was created to pay tribute to the region's many tireless volunteers who contribute so much to the community.

A perfect example of that is Shaye Morris who has volunteered two days a week as a trampoline coach at Central West Gymsports (CWG) for the past two years.

Ms Morris said she loved volunteering at the not-for-profit gym because it provided her with a "thoroughly enjoyable activity outside of work", as well as interaction with a great bunch of kids".

"There's so much more to life than working for money. The time I give at CWG is nothing in comparison to the joy it gives to me," she said.

"You develop connections with the children and their families... [as well as] within the local Orange community in general and the NSW Gymnastic community. I never would have [had that] if it weren't for volunteering."

Volunteering also felt like a valuable way to teach her young son about the really important things in life, she said.

"[He's] learning about how life isn't all about making money and learns the importance of giving. And he sees how happy I am coaching."

Nominations for all the Mummy awards, including 'Angel of the Year', close midnight, August 17.

The other categories include 'Mum of the Year', 'Educator of the Year', 'Business of the Year', Hero of the Year' and 'Garden of the Year'.
