Several incidents at clinics across the Central West - namely the region's main hub centres at Orange, Bathurst and Dubbo - has prompted the Western NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Scott McLachlan to issue a plea with the community to treat staff with respect.

"It's been across quite a few locations with people turning up angry and aggressive, and both demanding vaccinations if they haven't got an appointment, or demanding things our staff just haven't been able to deliver," Mr McLachlan said.

"As a community, we really need to take stock of how we're treating each other."

Mr McLachlan praised staff for their handling of the situations, labelling them as "heroes in every sense".

"I understand that this is a stressful time, for everyone - it absolutely is and the last thing we want is for people to feel as though they're not supported," he added.

"We're all in this together, this is a time for us to work together, make sure we can keep COVID out of our reach, but also behave in a respectful way."

That plea from the district's health chief comes on the back of news residents from the Greater Sydney region have been escaping the NSW Government's lockdown, or stretching the rules that allow them to leave home to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and trying their luck in regional areas, hundreds of kilometres from their own Local Government Areas.

Mr McLachlan confirmed on Thursday the Bathurst vaccination hub on William Street had seen people from Greater Sydney turning up to be vaccinated.

Asked if there was a legal loophole which allowed this, he said people were allowed to travel within 50km of their home to be vaccinated.

"Some people are taking a bit of exception to that rule," he said.

"We aren't accepting appointments for people from Greater Sydney but there are ways people are being sneaky, to get around it."

Asked what happens when they turn up, Mr McLachlan said his staff "manage the situation".

"We do everything we can to provide vaccinations to everyone in Western NSW.

"If someone turns up from outside the region and we can fit them in (we do) and we have done that on a number of occasions," he said.
