Orange City Council election candidate Sarah Blake said she was stunned by the response when she put a call-out on social media this week.
She said it was clear there was a need in Orange for a free space where people could learn and develop their skills.
This is my biggest passion project
- Sarah Blake, Council election candidate
Miss Blake said she had also received replies from 11 teachers who had shown interest in helping her out.
She said there had been interest in many different crafts.
They included pottery and ceramics, glass art, wood-working, furniture restoration, needlework, jewellery-making, leather work, knitting, candle making and writing.
Miss Blake said she would seek grant funding to find a space for a community hub.
She said if elected she would push for the scheme to be developed with council support.
And if not elected she would still apply for council assistance.
"We would need a sizeable space, we're going to need loads of space," she said. "We'd be not-for-profit.
"You would come in and there would be tools you wouldn't normally have access to."
She said while there were community groups in Orange there wasn't one central space. "There's different groups, the women's shed and men's shed, but they operate at different times," she said.
"This is my biggest passion project. It's still in very early-birdy stages."
Miss Blake is standing on a ticket with Nic Drage for the December 4 poll, now delayed due to COVID-19.
