Ayden Horton, 19, of North Orange, said he had his last drink at 9.30pm at a party on June 5 this year.
However, at 12.40am he was driving along William Maker Driver when he was stopped by police for a random breath test.
He returned a positive reading and was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station for a breath analysis where he returned a mid-range reading of 0.122.
Solicitor Mason Manwaring said Horton was a full-time boiler maker apprentice and he completed the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program following his drink-driving arrest.
"The loss of licence today won't stop him from keeping that employment but it will bring him under some strain," Mr Manwaring said.
He said Horton pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and he was not stopped due to his manner of driving but driving late at night would have attracted attention.
Magistrate Lisa Stapleton said Horton's reading of 0.122 was more than double the limit and described driving after drinking four shots of Sambuca as reckless and irresponsible, "even if the last shot was at 9.30pm".
"You were a danger to the community, drivers, passengers and others," she said.
Ms Stapleton convicted Horton and placed him on a Conditional Release Order requiring him to be of good behaviour for 12 months.
Ms Stapleton also disqualified Horton from driving for three months and she ordered him to have an interlock device, that will prevent him starting his car if there is alcohol in his system, for 12 months.
"My view is the mandatory interlock device is a very expensive device," she said.
