Snow, ice and rain covered the city over the weekend as the region froze. The feels like temperature dipped to minus-10.2 at 11am on Saturday, with the actual temperature around zero. It hovered around 2 degrees Celsius for most of the day.
The city's main weather station at the airport recorded 60.6mm in the last four days - 12mm on Wednesday, then 11, 19.9 and 18 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday respectively.
The average rainfall for Orange in July is 71mm.
So far this month, Orange has eclipsed that mark and there's 91.6mm in the rain gauge mid-way through the month. And it comes on the back of a bumper June as well.
There were several weather warnings, with wind gusts hitting 74 kilometres-per-hour on Saturday, on top of the general icy weather warning in place thanks to the snow and sleet that stuck around for most of the day.
Cabonne Council was onto the weather warning as well.
On Friday, they posted on Facebook warning people about heading towards Mount Canobolas.
"Following advice from the SES, Council has made the decision to close access gates to Mount Canobolas at 4pm this afternoon (July 16) as a precaution with the predicted inclement weather," council said.
"Weather conditions will be monitored and the roads will be reassessed."
The bleak, but typical, winter weather will stick around into next week, too, with some very chilly days on the horizon.
Monday will reach a top of 7 degrees, with a 90 per cent chance of more rain. There's anywhere between 1mm and 2mm on the forecast.
We're in for more rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, too, with a 95 per cent chance of precipitation arriving on the former. Up to 10mm could fall, too.
Wednesday will be our coldest day of the week as well, with a maximum of just 5 degrees Celsius.
It'll be followed by our best day on Thursday, with a top of 9 degrees and some sun, before rain again returns for the weekend.
Orange has received 739.2mm of rain so far this year, which is well ahead of where we sat during last year's drought-breaking of a 2020. We had 630.4mm in the rain gauge this time 12 months ago and went on to surpass the 1000mm mark for the calendar year.
