Orange City Council mayor Reg Kidd said recent wet weather had prompted some delays to construction but was confident the end product was going to make for a "major boost" to the CBD laneway.
"This work is really going to give this low-profile laneway a major boost to attract shoppers and customers, encouraging them to stroll off the the main street and explore a different part of town," Cr Kidd said.
"The recent rains have prompted some delays and I'd like to thank nearby businesses for their patience while this work happens."
Cr Kidd added that earlier in the week contractors working on-re-sealing the McNamara lane carpark were forced to stop work due to the weather.
Prior to this, they had managed to complete the hot-mix asphalt on the roadway and the area was now re-opened with minimal traffic restrictions.
"Crews will be taking away the rest of the traffic barriers once the trees are planted in the new tree pits. Weather permitting, it's expected this will happen next week," he said.
"If the weather's good, we're hoping the contractors will be back early next week to finish the car park.
"It's a very popular car park, and as soon as that's done, it will re-open for parking even though the line-marking won't be done till early next month.
"Final preparations are also underway for the framework of the new festoon lighting to be installed over the car-park.
"Crews will be installing those poles on weekends to minimise the inconvenience for drivers."
Work to transform the industrial section of McNamara Street into a "vibrant, attractive, busy, pedestrian friendly space" commenced in March.
At the start of construction, the Future City upgrade was due to be completed towards the end of the financial year.
