After the heavy snowfall in June, several large branches of the tree began to deteriorate.
After a closer inspection of the significant tree the council's crew discovered they had actually been broken off by the weight of the snow.
Crews were sent in to clear away the broken branches and the area around the tree and assess the tree to work out what to do next.
Council is also looking to source some new trees from the same genetic stock to grow and plant more trees in future.
The Orange RSL sub-branch holds a Anzac Day service at the site to remember the Battle of Lone Pine where Orange solider John Patrick Hamilton earned a Victoria Cross.
