Mr Pearson, who has called Molong home since he was 16, said he had felt motivated to throw his hat in the ring after being involved and also instigating a number of grassroot campaigns.

Most recently this included launching a petition against the closure of Molong's Commonwealth Bank.

Other projects Mr Pearson had been involved with had involved lobbying for the return of train travel to Molong and for more officers at the local police station.

"I've just always been vocal about local issues [and] always tried to play an active part where I can," he said.

"A lot of these things that I have campaigned for in the past - for example, the employment of additional police and the reinstatement of rail travel - are things I'd like to take into Council with me."

Other issues which were priorities to Mr Pearson were water security and the potential establishment of a Youth Advisory Council.

"I think we need to have an eye to the future and to... take on board the views of the youth of the Shire," he explained.

"I'd like to see more businesses come to town and to create more employment opportunities," Mr Pearson added.

"Council needs to do more to pretty much throw open the doors and invite businesses to set up shop in Molong and other areas of Cabonne as well as encourage people to start their own businesses [and] generate employment [to] boost the local economy.

"I think I could bring a more assertive voice into the chamber [as well as] a more refreshing, modern view to how we approach things."

Local government elections will be held in both Cabonne Council and Orange City Council on September 4. Residents have until July 26 to make sure they are correctly enrolled to vote.
