Chief Executive of the Western NSW Local Health District, Scott McLachlan said that while Orange Hospital can assist with health advice, they cannot make vaccination appointments for people.
"The Federal Government's Covid-19 Vaccine Eligibility Checker is online and it will step you through a few questions to sort out which phase you're eligible for vaccination in," he said.
"If you're eligible to be vaccinated, it will then guide you through the process of making a booking.
Mr McLachlan said the hospital switchboard was currently taking dozens of calls a day from people trying to make appointments, rendering operators unavailable to respond to other clinical matters.
"I also encourage people to double check where they need to go for their vaccination. Some people are turning up to their hospital when they've actually made an appointment at a GP surgery or another location," he said.
"It can be confusing in places like Orange where there's a vaccination clinic operating at Nymagee - a building you can get to by turning opposite the Forest Road entrance to the TAFE - as well as at the Bloomfield Medical Centre, which is also on Orange Road.
"At the same time, vaccination services are not provided at the Base Hospital which is close to both.
"Check the information you've been provided with when you make your booking and when it's confirmed.
"We don't want people to be frustrated, or even miss their appointment. Getting vaccinated for Covid-19 is too important."
"We know that some people may have to wait to get an appointment, but it's worth remembering that people under 60 can still choose to have either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine, and that more vaccination providers are being added all the time, including the announcement last week that some pharmacies are now able to deliver the shots."
