It's not quite Led Zepplin's stairway to heaven, but the entrance of the Orange Civic Theatre will soon be the stairway to Future City.

The next phase of Orange City Council's Future City upgrade on Lords Place and Byng Street began on Friday, with the development of the steps and ramp in front of the entrance to the theatre.
The area will be demolished in two stages to ensure access to the theatre foyer is available during construction.
The dated, pebble surface on the steps and ramp will be replaced by a concrete path way, in line with the look of the existing surface of the cultural precinct near the Orange Regional Museum and the work to upgrade the neighbouring footpaths along Lords Place and the new-look taxi rank.
The upgrade is designed to enhance the appearance of the area, create a safer, less slippery walkway and reduce the incline of the existing ramp.
Orange City Council says this much-needed upgrade will make access for people using wheelchairs and mobility scooters easier.
The work is expected to finish towards the end of July, weather permitting as well as contractor availability.
The current COVID-19 Public Health Orders from the NSW Government regarding people living or working in the Greater Sydney area means there's currently no performances booked at the theatre during the work, with the exception of the Kinross Wolaroi School Show of The Addams Family.
Ticketek will remain open as usual.
The aim is to have the new entrance to the theatre completed before the Orange Eisteddfod begins on July 29.
People with mobility concerns are being encouraged to use either the Orange City Council office entrance, or the entrance from the Council car park.
Council's Future City upgrade continues in the McNamara Street area as well, with the upgrade of the street between Summer and Kite streets, including murals and the revamp of the council car park in that area, nearing completion.
