The red and whites came into Saturday's game against Dubbo Bulls sitting in fourth place and within touching distance of the top three.

But after just seven minutes they found themselves behind when Tom Busch curled one into the top corner for the visitors.

Barnies bounced back strong at Jack Brabham Park when Dylan Halls evened things up midway through the first half.

"I thought we dominated the rest of the half and then the first 10 minutes of the second half," Halls said.

But against the run of play, super sub Bryce Williams lobbed the keeper on a first time strike with 15 minutes to play, before a James Leonard free kick managed to find its way into the back of the net to seal the three points for the Bulls.

"We didn't play on the main field, we played on one of the lower tier fields and up one side of it was just a pool of water and sloppy mud which makes it a bit harder, but at the end of the day you're there to do a job," Halls added.

"I'm not going to blame the pitch, but it was soaking wet, it was boggy and it was probably suited to Dubbo more than it was us.

"I reckon if we had it over and it was a cracking day then we definitely could have turned the result around. But on the day they were better I guess."

Williams has played sparingly for a Dubbo outfit that came into the season as title favourites.

He was just happy to contribute when his number was called.

"It's good to get a bit of game time in such a deep team and be able to get on there and score a goal, especially against the run of play," Williams said.

"Barnies had us for the 20 minutes before the goal. It was nice to get a good strike on the ball considering I missed an open goal last week."

This was the first WPL goal of the season for Williams who also plies his trade in the local Dubbo competition.

"I've only played about 50 minutes in premier league, so to get a goal like that is really good," he added.

"It was another hard fought battle. We've been hit and miss on how we're playing at the moment but we seem to be holding well and winning games so credit to captain-coaches James Leonard and Kobe Rapley that are driving us along and making sure everything is good.

"We've got one more home game and the rest away, so points are everything at the minute."

The win puts the Bulls tied with Waratahs on top of the ladder, although the Dubbo side has played an extra match. Barnies still sit fourth, but are seven points back of Orana in third and a single point ahead of Macquarie.
