But there's a number of great ways across town to ensure the kids stay busy this winter break.
Staff will wear masks, there will be hand-sanitising and social distancing and everyone will be required to register via Eventbrite to attend.
However, drop-in events - such as the collage dreamscapes and paper sculptures at the gallery - have had to cancelled. So too has The Beanies event at the library.
All other events, will go ahead as planned. These will mostly include hands-on workshops and excursions for children of all ages - many of which are free.
Orange City Library will host Science in the Kitchen workshops from 10am to 11.30am on Monday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 7.
Children aged eight and over can become amateur volcanologists and explore the scientific principles of chemical reactions and nucleation, and learn about geophysics, geochemistry and seismology.
The library will also host Sew Much Fun classes on Friday, July 9, from 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm. Children aged 10 and over will learn how to sew a bag, which they can fill with their own special things. Orange Library staff will be on hand to help them with the project.
The Library is also open every day for books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDS and music and for reading or study.
Orange Youth Hub will hold a fortnight of activities featuring a desserts and decorations cooking day, 3x3 basketball tournament, minute-to-win-it games and an art program decorating walls, terracotta pots and tie-dye shirts. It will be open from 10am to 5pm each day for young people to drop in and hang out.
The Youth Hub will also host a couple of excursions to Burrendong Dam and a field trip to the RSPCA, as well as a trip to the movies at Odeon 5 Cinemas. All school holiday activities can be found on the events calendar on Orange City Council's website.
