Waratah United were looking to propel themselves into the top four, while Waratah Wolfpack were hoping to claw its way from the bottom of the A grade ladder when the sides met on Friday night.
In what is quickly becoming a cliché in the top division, it was a good old fashioned goal-fest as United ran out 8-4 winners.
Victorious coach Mitch Goodacre was proud of his team in tough conditions.
"It was very wet Friday night so it wasn't the cleanest game of football, but it was raining goals too," he said.
"There were so many good players that it's really hard to pick a star player, but Matt Toedter was awarded man of the match."
The goal scorers for United included, Toedter, Hugh Middleton, Alex Patterson, Cameron Laird, while David Boufler and Paulo Grassi each bagged a brace.
Goodacre believes his team are riding high coming into the pointy end of the season.
"It's not the hardest year so far. The top three are probably us, CYMS and Barnies and Cowra are also a really good side," he said.
"We're all still really new to each other. Obviously a lot of them only started playing with us in A grade this year, but it's been really good.
"Confidence is through the roof at the moment because we're playing really well. There's never a doubt in them which is good."
All sides will now have the weekend off due to the bank holiday Monday and United will get an extra breather with their own bye the following week.
But once they get back on the field, they will be looking to secure that finals spot.
"I think we'll definitely make the finals and we'll try really hard to push for that top two spot," he said.
"Obviously it's going to be pretty hard to get CYMS off the top there and we'll have to hope that a couple other teams give them a loss here or there, but we're absolutely aiming for that top two spot.
"CYMS gave us a bit of a touch up a couple of weeks ago but we were missing heaps of people. I think with a full strength side against each other it will be really, really good match."
Other A grade results from the weekend included Millthorpe getting the win over Canobolas B 4-1, Barnies United B defeating Kinross 1sts 3-2 and a 1-1 draw was played out between Barnies United A and Cowra Eagles.
There were also a couple of forfeited games in the round.
Blayney B were gifted the win against CSU, then for the match scheduled for Sunday, CSU were handed the victory against Kinross.
