Cameras clicked, smartphones were taken off selfie mode and small children cried as the mighty 3801 arrived at the super long platform.
On board were not only a mass of primary school students from Bathurst who had to then catch a bus back to school, but also some dignitaries such as Transport for NSW Chief Operating Officer Howard Collins, member for Bathurst Paul Toole and Blayney mayor Scott Ferguson.
The old steam train will be in Orange on Monday, but several hundred tickets are now available for four train rides from Orange on June 14.
The train will run to Polona and return to Orange with the trips lasting about 75 minutes each.
The steam train will depart Orange at 8.30am, 10.15am, 11.45am and 1.35pm.
A spokesman said school groups had taken the majority of seats for the first Monday which had led to limited availability for the public.
However, he said the June 14 trips would be longer than on June 7 when 35-minute return trips to Spring Hill are planned.
Go to the Train Heritage NSW website to book tickets for the rides.
