An initial two shuttle trips for next Monday June 7 from Orange have virtually sold out.
However, a spokesman for Transport Heritage NSW said the train would return on the following Monday June 14, which is a public holiday.
"We're really encouraging people to go on that Monday [June 14]," he said.
The spokesman said several hundred tickets were now available for four train rides from Orange on June 14.
The train will run to Polona and return to Orange with the trips lasting about 75 minutes each.
The steam train will depart Orange at 8.30am, 10.15am, 11.45am and 1.35pm.
The spokesman said school groups had taken the majority of seats for the first Monday which had led to limited availability for the public.
However, he said the June 14 trips would be longer than on June 7 when 35-minute return trips to Spring Hill are planned.
3801 starts a tour of the Central West this Thursday when the train travels from Sydney to Lithgow.
Steam train rides will be run from Lithgow on Friday and Bathurst this weekend before the train comes to Orange on Monday.
A one way trip from Orange to Dubbo will also take place next Tuesday June 8, however that is sold out.
The tour continues with train rides from Dubbo on the June 12-13 weekend before the train returns to Orange.
Go to the Train Heritage NSW website to book tickets for the rides.
