Cabonne Shire Council this week approved its formal takeover of the Canowindra museum from the previous Age of Fishes Board to take place from July 1.
Council was told the Age of Fishes Association would retain items gifted to it by the community.
That includes the 1963 EJ Holden 'Fossil car' bequeathed by Ken Soward and community donations totalling $71,354.
Council was told a further $67,970 would transition to the council.
A report to council said the museum was forecast to have an operating loss of about $130,000 in its first year under new management.
"Council in its 2021/2022 budget has made provision for operating expenses of $262,494 including salaries and cost of sales (goods)," it said. "The budget forecasts an income of $131,700 (excludes General Fund contribution). The forecast net result is $130,794 deficit."
GLOWING CROWD
A massive crowd attended the key event of this year's first Canowindra International Balloon Challenge since COVID restrictions forced the cancellation of the 2020 festival.
Cabonne Council was this week told about 8000 people attended this month's Cabonne Community Balloon Glow which featured hot air balloons being lit up choreographed to music, night markets, live music, food and beverage stalls and community groups.
"The event historically had received between 4000-6000 attendees, however the 2021 event attracted just shy of 8000 people which is a fantastic achievement for a town with a population of just over 2000," a report to council said.
The festival ran over nine days.
STATION CHANGES
Council has approved changes to a $1.5 million plan to demolish an old service station in Gaskill Street Canowindra and replace it with a modern structure.
Council had approved a development application for the site however the applicant sought changes.
They included increasing the footprint of the service yard from 23 to 59 square metres, internal layout changes to the building and relocating underground fuel storage systems and underground stormwater detention tanks. It was passed unanimously by council.
POLL UPDATES
Information sessions for people planning to stand for council at the September 4 election will be held in June and July.
Local Government NSW will hold a session on June 9 at 5.30pm in the Council Chambers in Molong and the council executive will run sessions in Molong on July 27 and Canowindra on July 28.
COUNCIL PAY RISE
Councillors will receive a two per cent pay rise in line with the maximum allowed under state legislation. The mayor will receive $27,060 plus the councillor's allowance of $12,400.
