Iosefa Teo, 32, of Regent's Park, Queensland was caught with an alcohol reading of 0.102 at a stationary roadside breath testing site on Molong Road near Barelona Way.
Teo was directed into the testing site at 9.50am on March 19 and told police he drank alcohol the night before because he was leaving for Queensland to see his wife.
Solicitor Andrew Rolfe said Teo finished drinking about midnight.
"He thought he was going to be fine and he wasn't," Mr Rolfe said.
"The reason he was out drinking the night before, it was his farewell drinks before he left Orange to go back to Queensland.
Magistrate David Day convicted Teo, fined him $660, disqualified his driver's licence for three months and placed him on a 12-month interlock order.
Although it was a morning-after offence, Mr Day said Teo should not have driven.
"He should have felt a bit hungover and therefore a bit [unsafe] to drive," he said.
