Two people have died following a crash north of Wellington this morning.

Just before 5am on Saturday, emergency services were called to the Mitchell Highway at Maryvale - about 40km east of Dubbo.
According to NSW Police, an accident had occurred after a truck driver "drove upon a car that had crashed into a tree".

Both occupants - a 27-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman - died at the scene.
A crime scene was established and detectives from the Orana Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A brief will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
