Brian Thomas Whitton, 36, of Anson Street, was captured on CCTV on January 2 helping an acquaintance steal $1389.63 worth of clothing and a set of keys from Sports Power in Orange.
He was charged with aiding and abetting for the theft and for supplying LSD and cannabis, possession of 2.6 grams of Ketamine and two counts of hindering arrest.
The drugs were found after police tracked Whitton to a hotel room in Orange.
Police attended the hotel room at 2.25am on January 3 as part of their investigation into the Sports Power theft.
However, when police told Whitton he was under arrest he took something out of his pocket and swallowed it despite an attempt by police to stop him.
He appeared to be under the influence of something while at Orange Police Station so he was taken to Orange Hospital for treatment.
Police then returned to the hotel room to find out what Whitton may have ingested.
They looked in an Adidas brand bag Whitton had with him in CCTV footage at the sports store and found two sheets of LSD one containing 900 tabs with images of Mario Kart and another with 900 Alice in Wonderland- themed tabs with the words "eat me" printed on each tab.
His victim was vulnerable, it's disgraceful.
- Magistrate David Day
Police also found 569.1 grams of cannabis and the ketamine.
Whitton was released on bail and on March 31 he stole $250 in cash from the pocket of a man who has a disability as a result of a brain injury suffered in a car crash.
At 3.50pm on March 31, Whitton approached the victim in the gaming room of the Royal Hotel and started talking to him.
While speaking to the victim the accused tapped the victim's arm and looked down his shirt.
Whitton then pointed behind the victim to distract him and when the victim looked away he reached into the victim's breast pocket and stole $250 in cash.
Whitton quickly left the pub and the victim realising what had happened and attempted to give chase but was hampered by his disability.
The victim made a statement to police who arrested Whitton in Anson Street.
Magistrate David Day said Whitton was subject to a Community Correction Order at the time of the two sets of offending
"It's a disabled victim quietly spending some time for his own amusement and Mr Whitton preys upon him," Mr Day said.
"His victim was vulnerable, it's disgraceful.
"Although the supply charges are of equal seriousness the LSD is extremely dangerous."
He said sometimes people are not the "same again" after taking LSD, "the risk to the community is enormous".
Mr Day sentenced Whitton to two years' jail with a back-dated 12-month non-parole period until April 21, 2022 for the combined offences.
However, he said he would throw Whitton a "life preserver" by reinstating his CCO for a further three years, during which he will have to abstain from drugs and attend residential drug rehabilitation.
