Ed Morrish, who captained the cricketers to back-to-back Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket titles has decided to walk away from the game entirely for the upcoming 2021/22 season.
Stepping into the vacant leadership role will be fast bowler Brett Causer, who has been with the club for the past five years.
"Some of the older boys in the playing group were pretty keen for me to take it on once they found out Ed was leaving and the committee asked me," Morrish said.
"Then I made sure to get the ok from my wife. I've got a young family myself and obviously with the extra responsibility of going to selection meetings and whatnot, I had to make sure she was alright with that.
"I then double checked with all the main senior players in first grade that that is who they wanted to be in charge. Once they said yep then I was quite happy to put my hand up and give it a crack."
Causer had a down year with the ball last season relative to his lofty standards, taking only the 14 wickets at an average of 24.9.
But he's won four grand finals since he joined the club and believes there won't be much a tactical change once they step out onto the park.
But the offseason is where City may be impacted the most.
Causer says as well as losing Morrish, top order batsman Ben Schofield will also be departing the club, while young guns Harry McGregor and Blake Weymouth will "more than likely" be leaving.
"If you look at all those players there, you've got a lot of top order batsmen and two quick bowlers," Causer said.
"If you take them out of any team there's going to be a big hole to fill.
"We've just got to make sure we have a few people stepping up to take on those roles and do the best we can to keep the role on."
But despite that recent success that the club has had, the new captain isn't feeling any pressure to succeed right away.
"I always put a bit of pressure on myself regardless of where things are and I think that's why we've been so successful in terms of setting pretty high standards," he said.
"This year here will be quite different. No one in the club has any pressure on me.
"They know it might be a difficult season with the personnel changes and it will be a bit of a rebuilding year for us.
"My number one aim will be to get everyone on the same page moving forward and hopefully make the finals, and who knows, when you make the finals anything can happen."
